The US military said that the strikes, lasting hours, had hit multiple  Iranian military targets. Iranian state media says that its forces were responding to the attacks. A US military spokesperson said that the second night of strikes was a response to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps firing at another commercial vessel in the Straight of Hormuz. In conflicting talks on the straight, Tehran has major leverage over negotiations. US allies in the gulf region reported Iranian fire during the weekend while Tehran claimed it was targeting US military bases in the area, causing another escalation in diplomatic relations between the countries. Because of the ongoing conflict, oil prices continue to climb: Brent crude and US crude prices jumped over 3% on Sunday.
