The presidential delegation from Singapore was led by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who came to Malaysia for a three-day state visit with the primary objective of enhancing cooperation between the two close neighboring countries. On his request, the King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, was going to welcome him with a grand State Welcoming Ceremony, accompany the royal visit during the audience with His Majesty, dine together on a State Banquet, and the President, Tharman, would also have bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in private and informal settings. President Tharman's state visit to Malaysia was his very first one after assuming the presidential position in 2023. The visit is an indication of the deep relationship and the cooperation that is continuously growing between these two countries. Singapore has been Malaysia's second-largest trading partner worldwide; bilateral trade amounted to RM402.35 billion (US$93.97 billion) in 2026, and it is also increasing 14.5% for the first five months of this year. Besides, such a visit is also a reflection of the joint intention of each nation to strengthen its economic relationship as well as the collaboration at the regional level.
