Deadly fighting has broken out along the border of Thailand and Cambodia in one of the worst escalations between the two nations in years. Artillery fire, airstrikes, and ground clashes have left dozens dead and forced over 130,000 people, mostly Thai civilians, to flee their homes. Both governments accuse each other of initiating the violence, which has disrupted trade and led to martial law in parts of Thailand. ASEAN helped broker an emergency ceasefire on July 28, but tensions remain elevated as long-standing territorial disputes and rising nationalist sentiment continue to drive hostility.
